Learn more about the six essentials to improving Pomona Unified School District
We also need to work on culture and climate to ensure that bullying, gang threats, and toxic behaviors are checked and corrected. We must allow parents to volunteer to a greater degree and welcome more constructive programs onto our campuses that teach and reinforce positive norms and behaviors for students. Vote for me so that I can ensure PUSD quickly form emergency task forces and craft effective emergency plans for each school site.
We need to ensure that PUSD manage existing resources better without closing more schools and passing additional bonds. Homeowners should not be forced to foot the bill for the district's declining enrollment. Yet the district continues to burden taxpayers with an endless stream of bond measures with no end in sight. My opponent is trying to bill us for another bond for 2024. Vote for me so that I can help to put a halt to all unnecessary bonds.
Our schools must do a better job of notifying parents in a timely manner. Parents receive too many text and email messages about non-essential matters. But when emergencies occur, we hear about our child's school on social media, on television, or from friends and neighbors. Vote for me so that I can help to ensure that our parents remain informed.
Our neighborhood children are being forced to walk long distances because of so-called school consolidations. The Pomona Unified School District is one of the largest landowners in all of Pomona and Diamond Bar. Recently the school district's assistant superintendent reported that PUSD has roughly 15 acres of real estate with meager revenue streams. Vote for me so that I can urge a sale of all unused and vacant land to save our schools!
Pomona's teacher association president recently reported that PUSD relies heavily on substitute teachers. She further reported that the district has a critical shortage of teachers in key subject areas. If our students are to be prepared for strong college and career options in the future, then we must prepare our children for those opportunities today. Vote for me so that I can advocate for the implementation of strong solutions for our neighborhood children now.
California is suffering from a teacher shortage. PUSD is having a very difficult time filling vacancies and our students' grades and test scores are suffering. We need innovative solutions for recruiting, hiring, and retaining quality teachers now. In my role as a financial professional, I intend to advise our district on how to rework our budgets to provide a suitable wage for teachers and staff. Vote for me and I will ensure that our children enjoy safe and supportive learning environments that are staffed by well-respected teachers.
